We’re super excited (and relieved, this one was a piece of work...) to finally announce the arrival of a new shipment from Céline Jacquet in Savoie. The god of logistic made this one a very challenging shipment, but it finally arrived. Hurray!

If you don’t know her, Céline Jacquet is a young woman winemaker installed in Arbin, the mecca of Mondeuse, where she is crafting some very clean, artisanal wines. A direct neighbor to the legend Louis Magnin, she farmed 5 hectares of vines in Arbin, Cruet, St-Jean de la Porte and Chignin since a bit more than a decade and produces wines from the main appellations in the region with a style favoring balance and tension.

As the slopes of the region and the tiny size of the domaine would suggest, all the wines are handcrafted. Vineyards are worked by hand, no pesticide or herbicide and low intervention in the cellar.

The wines are very approachable, amazing value and speaking to all the crowds, from classic wine drinkers to more adventurous sippers.

 The wines that just arrived:

La Surprise de Marc 2022 - 100% Jacquère
AOP Savoie

This wine is a typical young Jacquère from Savoie made in a very classic way: very short maceration and aging, aged in stainless steel and fiberglass, very zippy, low alcohol, clear citrusy profile. The grapes are hand-harvested from a parcel with vines approximately 70 years old. The parcel is located on the north, high altitude, overlooking the Chignin vineyard, located in a small circus with south-west exposure at 700 meters elevation. The fruit sees a light direct press with slow debourbage. Wine doesn’t go through malolactic fermentation.

Roussette de Savoie 2022 - 100% Altesse
AOP Roussette de Savoie

Altesse is the second most planted white grape in Savoie, far behind Jacquère. To many, it is probably the grape with the biggest potential to make the greatest wines of the region (although traditionally, the Bergeron was the name often coming when speaking of highest quality).
Altesse combines minerality and acidity with a more rich  and broad pallet of flavors than the Jacquère. In this wine, we found peach, pear, white flowers, banana, some sort of medicinal herbs… It’s also clearly a white that can age much more. A beautiful wine that can be drunk now or wait many years. Amazing value.

Rosé de Mondeuse 2022 - 100% Mondeuse
AOP Savoie

Not so often that we see a rosé from Mondeuse, although it seems like the  grape is a super good fit for rosé, be it a quick direct press or a longer maceration.
The spices, licorice and tannins of the Mondeuse clearly help build a nice structure and complexity for this rosé, despite the very short maceration and the very pale color.

Great companion of summer meals of all sort!ja
