David's Living Wine Weekly Update

"Sure, there's bad Puglian wine on the market, but this one's great," is a phrase I'd hear often as an Italian wine buyer. Luckily, I'm an eager drinker (I was back then, too), and I don't roll my eyes at any bottle. In this position, I was introduced to some delicious wines from Italy's heel. Despite the region's notorious reputation for bulk and convention, there's a growing number of producers crafting exciting wines, using healthy fruit and low-intervention methods. At Living Wine, we're proud to carry one such producer: Cantina Giara.

Giorgio Nicasso's family has been working vineyards in Bari since the '80s. Today, he's dedicated "to making living, vibrant natural wines that express terroir" with organics and biodynamics. And that is what makes Cantina Giara wines extra special. Their Puglian spirit is enhanced, not compromised, by the low-intervention practices adopted by Giorgio.

The following two wines are almost out of stock:

Domaine Mayoussier 2019 Le Culotté de Mayoussier - Isère

This steel aged Souvignon Blanc/Roussanne blend is deceptively brisk and nimble. Fragrant, with mixed fruits of firm apple and zippy citrus, this white has quick acidity and a refreshing texture.

Forti del Vento 2017 Ottotori - Piedmont

A "zero-zero" wine from Ovada. This Dolcetto is earthy and mineral in profile. Full of dark, dried plums and berries, with a healthy dash of garden soil and green herbs. Great drive on the palate - an elegant version of this grape while still being unique and "natural" in character.

De la Soif 2021 Rouge - California

One of my favorite wines to bring around, there is so much verve to this Carignan/Barbera blend. High-toned, wild red fruits on the nose and tongue, this is a perfect wine to start off a meal... I'm thinking with cheeses, mustards, and jams.
