Baša Vino

Bojan Baša started his wine estate as a hobby back in 2010 when he planted his first vineyard entirely with Pinot Grigio. Today, his estate spans over 5.5 hectares (13.5 acres). Baša’s winemaking approach is very minimalist, as he likes to focus on vineyard work for quality. He implements organic/biodynamic principles, supporting the high biodiversity in and around the vineyards.

Apart from Pinot Grigio, he has also planted indigenous varieties from the region, such as Tamjanika, Furmint, Morava, Grašac Beli (Welschriesling), and Prokupac. Looking ahead, he plans to plant a few more native varieties from the area, like Sremska Zelenika, Lipolist (Hárslevelű), Medenac Beli, Bakator, and Kadarka, but also others which have a proven presence on Fruška Gora for more than 300-400 years such as Riesling and Gewürztraminer.

The Wines

Baša Jantar 2019 (Pinot Grigio)

A 5-7 days of maceration, spontaneous fermentation and malo, no temperature control, 12 months of batonnage. Maturation on lees for 28 months, 60% goes in 225L, 300L and 500L used French and Serbian oak barrels, and 40% goes into 500L acacia barrels. Then all of it goes in 2,000L stainless steel tanks. Unfined/Unfiltered. No added SO2

Baša Furmint, 2020

Spontaneous fermentation with the skins, without temperature control and spontaneous malolactic fermentation. Battonage for a year, then aged for another 2 years on fine lees in oak and Serbian acacia barrels. Nothing added or taken out.

Baša Tamjanika, 2020

"By Alex Zecevic, wine journalist: This is not your mommy's Tamjanika, light, aromatic and easy. Rather, this is a gastronomic wine with a serious grip and intensity. Like walking through a tea and spice shop, this lures you in with its bouquet, while the palate develops like Scorsese's movie plot, slowly revealing all of its complexity, leading to a memorable ending. The air helps peel off each layer, so best to wait and don't be shy to ponder on this one."

Baša Morava, 2020

"A whisper of the Balkans in every sip. Ferocious vines, bursting with life. The air thrums with the vibrant energy of a hidden ecosystem. This wine is not shy, it grabs you with the fierce spirit of its origins. The crisp acidity dances on your tongue like a mountain stream, a refreshing counterpoint to the subtle whispers of Traminac's floral perfume and Riesling's steely minerality. These two iconic grapes, united in Morava, engage in a captivating conversation, a wild dance that somehow transforms into unexpected elegance. The initial burst of vibrancy gives way to a surprising depth, a hidden well of complexity that unfolds with each breath. It's a wine that awakens your senses, that compels you to explore its hidden corners. It's the thrill of the unexpected, the satisfaction of finding beauty in the wild."
