Champagne Legret & Fils is a small family-owned Champagne producer. Alain and Sandrine are the fourth generation. Alain joined his parents in 1986, the estate became an independent grower in 2000 and Alain and Sandrine took the lead in 2006 when Jean-Pierre and Jacqueline retired.
Alain and Sandrine farm 5 hectares of vines. The winery is located in Talus-Saint-Prix, north of Sézanne, in direction of Epernay. The vineyards are on the slopes of the Valley of the Petit Morin and in the Sézannais. They grow Pinot Noir and Meunier in Talus-Sain-Prix and Oye, on south-facing clayey-silty plots, and Chardonnay on plots in Sézanne and Barbonne, where the limestone subsoils suit Chardonnay best.
Since Alain took the lead, he has kept moving toward sustainability and natural practices. The estate has been Terra Vitis certified since 2017, and has launched its organic conversion and certification in 2018 (conversion being achieved now). All wines are also Vegan certified. The estate has launched a vitiforestry program in 2020. The current wine lineup is made of six champagnes, four white and two rosé, brut-nature and extra brut, with one vintage Champagne.
We loved the approach of the estate, very far from the sparkles of large champagne house, very down to hearth and humble. An authentic small grower champagne estate that is making extremely balanced and diverse inspiring Champagne, at amazing value. At Legret & Fils, it's about honesty, work, and progressive improvement and certainly not about fame and business. Our type of Champagne!
